Originality in videosystems has always developed with technological innovations in projection devices. Since the eighties, different artists started to experiment with the many opportunities that these devices offered them. Tony Oursler made some videosystems where he projected talking heads over some egg- shaped ovals, and Bill Viola and Steve McQueen created monumental screened presentations in huge walls. The latest years, the 3D technique development and the searching for stunning methods for the show business and publicity have given place to a new communication technique using screening, the 3D mapping projection. This technique is characterized for screening third dimension images over surfaces such as huge building facades, big installations or objects etc. Agencies like the TCH Access Agency offer the maximum creativity to acquire incredible volume and depth effects.

From the success of the Samsung 3D projection on the historical building in Amsterdam, Beurs van Berlage, in May 2010, many brands like Mattel, Nike or Toyota have recourse to this technique. We present you one of the most successful projections that gave been lately created for the “Adidas is all in” campaign. This projection had place on the Palais du Pharo’s surface in Marseille, a big scale project orchestrated by DJ Cut Killer. This technique has also been used for brands such as Ralph Lauren and, recently, we could see a good example during the new Santa Eulàlia store opening, a classic in the fashion business in , placed in Paseo de Gracia.

THIS LEAK from Félix Fernández on Vimeo.

“This Leak” who participated last month in Region 0. The Latino Video Art Festival of New York, shows the cathartic process of a businessman from Wall Street to a new perspective for the future. The rigid attitude of the character contained in the geometry and the stress of New York is released by a dance under the open sky in the same city. Finally, shining in the evening light releases its hidden look to new horizons and discovers the extent of the surrounding space.

Yes, I’ve been there! “Alexander McQueen: Savage ” at the legendary – New York Metropolitan Museum.

I would not call it an – most likely a , judging by the emotional pitch I got. I’m sure most of my 2-hour-line-to-go-inside mates got it as well.

Two mannequins symbolizing the ‘extreme temper’ of McQueen’s creations met us near the entrance. Deeper into his world – hundred (!) outfits and a horrifying hour later, most certainly worth spending.

Life on the verge of catastrophe, beneficence on the brink of violence – this genius St. Martin’s graduate combined not only fabrics and textures, but ideas and fantasies in a perverted but majestic way.

When you walk through those dark cold halls, you dip into McQueen’s dreams and nightmares, you feel charmed and horrified at the same time.

The space is geniously organized – seems like you read a story, more fiction than biography.

Why why why? So brilliantly staged tragic plot leaves more questions than answers to his audience.

was only an iceberg’s peak of McQueen’s personality. Actually, he was so much more. Our beloved extreme silhouettes were about his outrageous protest against stereotypes. Admiration of ugliness was nothing but opposition to inert mentality of mainstream.

Devotion to historical costume, nature of a warrior, destroying barriers of prejudice and ignoring social taboos – that’s all about him.

“You’ve got to know the rules to break them. That’s what I’m here for, to demolish the rules but to keep the tradition”, – Alexander McQueen.

I was shocked, though magnificently inspired. Contradictions again. So naturally. Such a pity…
